Veterinary Specialty Care

An Advanced Level of Expertise for Pets

Just like humans, pets can face serious or complicated health conditions that require advanced expertise from a specialist. Fortunately, Animal Hospital at Thorndale has a team of veterinary specialists board-certified in surgery, radiology, and emergency and critical care. This tremendously elevates our services and allows our patients to receive nearly all types of care right here where they are most comfortable.

Board-certified means they’ve completed rigorous additional training in their respective specialties and passed extensive national certification exams. It also means that when your pet sees one of our specialists, or if your primary care veterinarian refers your pet to one of our specialists, you gain a highly qualified expert on your pet’s healthcare team—one who collaborates with you and your primary care veterinarian to ensure that your pet has the best-possible outcome. And if your primary care veterinarian is already here at Animal Hospital at Thorndale, your pet benefits from a truly seamless continuity of care, all under one roof.

Here’s a closer look at the specialties we offer:

Veterinary Surgery

Because they’re focused solely on surgery, our board-certified veterinary surgeon and her team of OR technicians are highly skilled when it comes to performing today’s most technically demanding procedures. And they have a track record of successful outcomes—which is why an ever-increasing number of the region’s primary care veterinarians refer their patients to us for surgery.

From routine surgical procedures to the most complex, Animal Hospital at Thorndale is fully equipped to perform a range of surgeries, often using minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopy and arthroscopy.

Our capabilities include:

  • Gastrointestinal surgery for biopsy or tumor removal, removal of foreign objects, upper GI bleeding, removal of diseased parts of the intestine or stomach
  • Orthopedic surgery to repair fractures and other musculoskeletal injuries, cruciate ligament tears, hip dysplasia, and osteochondritis
  • Soft-tissue surgery relating to internal organs, skin and muscle
  • Cancer surgery to remove tumors
  • Reconstructive surgery to restore form and function after trauma or cancer surgery
  • Urinary tract surgery
  • Hepatobiliary surgery on the liver and gallbladder

Our modern surgery suite has state-of-the-art anesthesia and patient monitoring technology for your pet’s safety and comfort—and your peace of mind. We also provide expert pain management to keep your pet comfortable before, during and after surgery.

Veterinary Radiology

Radiology—medical imaging technologies that see inside your pet’s body—is an essential part of the modern veterinarian’s toolkit for diagnosing and sometimes treating diseases. At Animal Hospital at Thorndale, we’ve invested in some of today’s most advanced diagnostic imaging technology.

Equally important, we have a board-certified veterinary radiologist on staff. Why does that matter? Because the signs of disease in diagnostic images can be subtle, requiring significant expertise to detect and interpret them accurately in order to guide appropriate treatment. Many veterinarians interpret diagnostic imaging themselves, but we go the extra step by having a board-certified radiologist with advanced training and extensive experience who performs and reads all diagnostic imaging. It translates into a higher standard of care.

The types of diagnostic imaging we perform include:

  • Radiography (x-rays): We use digital x-rays to assess a range of common issues such as broken bones, arthritis, foreign objects or obstructions in the digestive tract, pneumonia or bladder stones
  • Ultrasound: Diagnostic ultrasound effective for showing details of soft tissues and organs, making it a go-to modality for assessing abdominal organs, the heart, blood vessels, muscles and ligaments, or animals in utero (in the womb)

In addition, our board-certified radiologist is trained to perform interventional diagnostic procedures such as ultrasound-guided biopsies and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirates.

Scheduling for an outpatient procedure is easy. Just call 610-873-4091.
